Wine and Dine Half Marathon

November 13, 2012 Erin

November 10, the husband and I ran in the Disney Wine and Dine half marathon. This race took place at Disney World at night. We finished! And that’s about all I can say. But finishing is all I was going for. So… success!!

This was my 2nd half marathon and 2nd Disney race. I really enjoy the Disney races, because everyone is so enthusiastic. And not everyone looks like a serious runner. It’s a race that those of us who are not the model athlete can feel comfortable in. Also… the costumes! So much fun.

The reason I initially decided to do these races was because they looked fun, but also because I wanted to donate the medals to Medals 4 Mettle (M4M).  M4M is a group that takes half-marathon, marathon, and triathlon race medals and gives them to children and adults with serious illnesses. How cool is that? I’m sending the four Rob and I earned to the Denver chapter. (I think the Tinker Bell medal is super cool)How the running actually went: My husband is struggling with a bit of tendonitis and I… well apparently I need to incorporate 2 hours of standing around before running into my training, because holy moly did my feet hurt, and that is not normal. I was good until about mile 8 or so, and then the pain teetered to the other side of tolerable. However, two days later, I’m feeling okay, my knee is okay, and that’s a vast improvement from last race. (probably helps that I didn’t start the race with the first nagging pains of tendonitis)

Our next race is the end of January when we are headed back to Disneyland to do the 2nd Tinker Bell Half Marathon. I think we’re going to do that one yearly. I’m a little nervous because our flight back is the same evening as the race. Will we be able to hobble through security? Time will tell.

(I’m hoping there will be no hobbling)
